Friday 31th Barcelona

Saturday 1st Crete

We arrived at Heraklion at 5am (!) and quickly picked up our Hertz rental car (5am!). We stopped by a bakery for fresh Bugatsi and drove to the Minoan Palace of Knossos. Then we drove East and walked around Avdou the village with signs of their professions on their front door. Then the long drive far east to Elounda, over a narrow nerve wracking strip of a roadway in the water to Kolokytha beach. Then back north to Spinalonga and walked around the old fort. Lunch at the Ferryman Taverna- famous for being in the film “The Ferryman” but also really good food. We got lost driving back to Rethymno and took many winding roads as the gps kept getting mixed up. We stayed at Thegaia Studios in Rethymno. Dinner at Veneto Hotel where we had our first taste of crete wines- “Challenging” Mythic Kingdom wine. Danced at Tango Festival in Rethymno. That was day one.

Sunday 2nd

Rethymno, Woke up late and had to rush for the Wedding where we stayed later than expected. We were surprised to see Xylouris playing at the wedding. Later we picked up the Greek cell phone from a cousin and then went to dance at the Tango festival.

Monday 3rd Leave Rethymno

Went to Chania, stayed at Iliotropio Art studios- very small and no balcony as we had hoped. I picked up charger for batteries. Went to Maroulas Village, bought essential oils from Margarita. Went to St George Olive Oil Factory at sunset for photos.
